Riverside Market

Emerging from the rebuild following the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes, Riverside Market represents reflects a city that values local makers, shared spaces, creativity, and connection. 

At its heart, Riverside is a seven-day indoor farmers’ market, buzzing with energy from morning to night. Stalls brim with fresh local produce, artisan bread, meat and seafood, sweet treats, coffee, and ready-to-eat food from around the world. The atmosphere is casual and social.

Running alongside the market is Riverside Lanes, a boutique shopping precinct that adds another layer to the experience. Specialty stores and additional dining options spill out into laneways, creating a modern take on the traditional market-meets-main-street vibe. 

One of Riverside Market’s most striking features is the large three-dimensional mural on its east-facing external wall, a true celebration of Christchurch’s identity. Created by a local graffiti art collective, the artwork forms a wall of stories, paying homage to the city’s past, acknowledging its present, and looking confidently toward its future. It’s bold, detailed, and impossible to miss.
